1345 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY

1345 4

1345 Avenue of the Americas contains a large office tower with elevated entry plaza on east elevation and plaza on the north and south side of building. The west side of the tower contains an elevated plaza with the two-story Ziegfeld Banquet Hall to the west. The plaza, lobby, first floor facade, and amenity space in concourse level were redesigned as part of the overall renovation project.

The entry plaza was redesigned with circular seating and landscaped areas surrounding a center circular fountain at the building street corners. Seating was introduced at the perimeter of the plaza planter wall. Recessed landscaped areas were introduced in the plaza with a decorative globe sculpture. The messenger stairs and egress stairs at the north and south side of plaza were clad with glass guardrails. Circular planters clad with granite with landscape in the center and stainless-steel bracket supported mahogany strip seating surfaces. The rear elevated plaza was designed in a similar fashion with circular seating. A large mural of a falcon was installed on the wall of the Ziegfeld Banquet Hall, which has 3-dimensional imagery as viewed through a smart phone.

Diaz Architect & Associates, P.C. worked closely with the design architect during the design phase and construction administration phase. Design consisted of:

  • Granite paver on mud bed
  • Insulation board
  • Drainage composite
  • Two ply modified bitumen membrane at field of plaza
  • Fabric reinforced liquid membrane at planter bed and fountain basin

The stone anchor on the concrete planter wall was carefully waterproofed individually. The cavity space at the raised portion of the west plaza and fountain basin also had double membrane system with a blind drain. Careful waterproofing of all penetrations of electrical and irrigation supply lines was performed in complex construction site with tight deadlines.
