Plaza Restoration
375 Pearl Street is a 32-story high building located adjacent to the historical Brooklyn bridge entrance ramp walls and behind NYC police headquarters. The building repositioned from Verizon data center to office building required relocating the main entrance and lobby to the east elevation under the portico created by the East bustle structure. Starbucks tenant space was introduced, and the barren plaza was redesigned.
Diaz Architect & Associates, P.C. worked with a team of designers that introduced planter boxes clad with granite panels with low vegetation and shade trees and perimeter seating on the south side of the plaza. The east side of plaza contained low landscaping areas formed with curving like form with stainless steel metal edges and sculptural like stone objects that double as seating. Stainless steel seating was introduced at perimeter of granite clad wall at the sidewalk. Stainless cable and railings were introduced on top of the granite wall to provide necessary fall protection.
Diaz Architect & Associates, P.C. was the technical architect and prepared construction documents for the plaza renovation which involved
- Reconstruction of deteriorated plaza structure and handicap ramp in certain areas
- Waterproof of entire plaza, stairs and handicap ramp
- Decorative concrete pavement on insulation was installed over waterproofing
- Waterproofing of the drainage trough and replacement of the drains along granite clad plaza wall
- Waterproofing of the stairs with fabric reinforced liquid membrane and replacement granite stone units
- Replacement of perimeter fall protection on the north side of the plaza with stainless steel post and glass panel guardrail
The redesigned plaza is now an intricate part of the relocated entrance and provides enjoyment for building occupants to congregate in a more natural and comfortable setting.
