Exterior Building Envelope Repair

The building at 525 N. Broadway, White Plains, NY consists of a two-tory high structure and exposed basement for car parking.  It is the headquarters and call-in location of Metro North.  The curved façade with puncture windows consists of 4” brick and cast stone bands with a cavity and backup wall covered with a waterproofing underlayment.  There are relieving angles bolted to the spandrel beams.  There were various locations on the façade that were affected by water infiltration including window heads and jambs and building corners of the southeast side of the building on the second floor.

Diaz Architect & Associates, P.C. was in charge of performing an investigation of the water infiltration at the building, conducting exploratory probes and preparing a scope of work for construction documents.  The repair design consists of:

  • Remove existing brick, cast stone band, underlayment and relieving angle
  • Provide waterproofed underlayment and curved steel relieving angles and steel angles over windows
  • Provide flashing at relieving angles and lintels
  • Flash window perimeter with substrate waterproofing
  • Provide brick and cast stone replacement secured with stainless steel ties with waterproofed connections
  • Proper positioning of new windows and flashing of windows within void of cavity wall
