590 Avenue of America is a16-story high building and occupies a corner street lot. The Foundling Hospital occupies the upper with main lobby on Avenue of Americas and a NYC public school occupies the lower 6 floors with main entrance on 17th Street. Each of the entrances are recessed back from the building line, exposing the basement slab. The sidewalk contains tree pits and DOT newspaper stand structure on the northerly corner of Avenue of America.
Diaz Architect & Associates, P.C. designed the sidewalk replacement project as followed
- 6” thick color pigmented concrete sidewalk slab with reinforcement and steel trowel finish with circular fashion and lightly sponge texture for slip resistant
- Expansion joints were introduced to allow thermal movement of the concrete
- Two-ply modified bitumen waterproofing with liquid membrane flashing
- Steel faced concrete curb with reinforcement
- Granite curb on concrete footing with a low wrought railing around the tree pit.
