Façade Restoration, Façade Lighting Upgrade and Façade Cleaning

711 Fifth Avenue is an 18-story high steel framed structure constructed in 1927.  The building consists of ornamental limestone panels on masonry backup from grade to the 14th floor.  Bracketed limestone cornices are located at the 4th and 14th floors.  There are Corinthian columns with terra cotta capitals pilasters from the 2nd to the 4th floor.  The two-story north penthouse consists of multi-wythe brick walls laid in a running bond with heads and decorative terra cotta pilasters with capitals and horizontally with decorative terra cotta bands.

Diaz Architect & Associates, P.C. performed the NYC FISP Investigation and Roof Investigation of the structure and observed various conditions in need of repair and prepared a design plan that included:

  • Rebuild multi-wythe brick enclosure with reinforcement around steel column.
  • Paint steel column, waterproof steel column and provide relieving angle at each floor.
  • Rebuild stepped brick cracked areas.
  • Rebuild brick and replace lintel over window openings Rebuild multi-wythe brick parapet with reinforcement extending to window lintel of floor below and provide cast stone coping.
  • Renovate existing steel guardrail with stainless steel inserts
  • Provide cast stone replacement coping at existing parapet with appropriate flashing
  • Replace fire skylights over the elevator machine room and stair bulkhead.
  • Provide steel repairs at fire escape
  • Provide roof replacement over sloped roof with 2 ply modified bitumen roof with granulated cap sheet to assimilate to the original terra cotta tile
  • Restoring cornice waterproofing membrane
  • Repairing cracks at cornice
  • Provide façade lighting units at horizontal limestone ledges and setback roof
