Historic Roof Replacement
Buell Hall is a historic 3-story brick structure from the mid-19th century, which was an administration building of a former hospital complex on the site prior to the construction of the Columbia University campus.
The structure has slate roof with gables and dormers and intersecting flat roofs. Past roof replacement projects had provided short term solutions, which never properly addressed the critical gable/flat roof intersections.
Diaz Architect & Associates, P.C. selected a membrane system to provide a continuous system under the slate gable roof and simplify wood sheathing installation. Matching slates were selected to maintain the original appearance in this modest size building, which occupies a prominent location on campus. Decorative copper cornice and ridge caps were fabricated and installed. Copper valley flashing at dormers were installed. Brick restoration of chimney was also performed.
