New York Athletic Club contains an approximate 15’-0” wide x 60’-0” long sidewalk on 58th Street that contains a double height vault space in the basement extending approximately to the street curb. The vault space consists of brick foundation wall with steel columns and beams. This space has a long history of water infiltration as evidenced by the steel corrosion on the columns and beams.
Diaz Architect & Associates, P.C. prepared the design repairs for the sidewalk and vault including:
- Removing the sidewalk pavement, waterproofing, concrete, structural slab and embedded steel structure
- Rebuilding top of the brick foundation to accept the new steel beams
- Providing steel beam replacement and rebar reinforced concrete on metal deck with shar stud connection
- Providing two ply modified bitumen membrane waterproofing with fabric reinforced liquid membrane
- Providing wire reinforced pigmented concrete sidewalk pavement slab with circular troweled finish
- Replacement of granite curb and footing
