Weston Hall is a 6-story high building that functions as the School of Architecture, Interior Design and Industrial Arts. The building consists of the north portion which was recladded over the original structure and the large addition on the south side, which was constructed in 1997. The building consists of aluminum frame curtain wall with glass spandrel and vision panels. There are aluminum panels cladding the parapets and columns. The base of the building, west façade, south and north end of the building consists of brick and concrete masonry unit (CMU) cavity wall construction.
The building was demonstrating various deficiencies consisting of vertically cracked brick masonry, deteriorated masonry, deteriorated sealant joints and water infiltration issues. Diaz Architect & Associates, P.C. performed binocular survey, investigated probes, and performed close-up investigation from scaffolding in order to prepare a design plan that consisted of:
- Reconstruction of cracked building corner and introducing expansion joint
- Reflashing relieving angle and brick replacement
- Replacement of cracked brick facade, step crack and lintels
- Resealing deteriorated brick expansion sealant joints
- Resealing deteriorated sealant at cast stone windowsills
- Introducing new relieving angles welded to existing structure
- Sealing curtain wall joints and capping open tubes of mullions
